The Hope Letter was birthed in 2015 from a hopeless season spent battling chronic pain and learning to face the battles that came with it. Calligraphy and lettering of verses became a source of relief, and if anything, to remind me of the hope I still had, and will have.

Lettering and design became my expressive outlet – to share the stories from my own journey with the hope that someone who’s going through a storm, would too, find hope and strength, and a little light in their sea of darkness.

It was my dream that behind each creation posted on social media, it would be something real, authentic and honest – and it would bring a little hope and cheer to anyone who’s fighting battles of their own, including the battles they never dared to bare.

Slowly, what was meant to be a place for me to share my lettering works became a community – I began having the opportunity to create for people. Personalised thank you cards for colleagues, heartfelt wedding gifts, wall murals for new family homes, a teacher’s motivational cards for her students, requests that were intended to uplift and inspire. More importantly, hearing the stories and dreams my clients had and translating them into art was both a joy and a privilege. And I’m so thankful for clients who have become friends who message me every now and then.

Starting this space is a step further into spreading a little hope and light to a greater community. We are working on building up this space – and I hope you find encouragement, hope and joy in the art we create.

If you have been encouraged or inspired by what you see here, let us know (: it’s always the stories of our lives that keep us going, knowing that we are never ever alone.

love, Jan
